Why are they Called Spider Veins?
A cool morning walk after a light rain is the best way to find out how spider veins got their name. They start from a central point and spread outward like a spider's web - expanding, crossing and splitting much like the branches of a tree; and, indeed, branches they are!

MORE INFORMATION |
Spider veins have a variety of names (threads, starbursts), they are all identified toward their initial starburst or branch-like appearance. Most common on the legs, they often appear on the nose and face, as well as the breasts and chest.
These are caused by the dilation and leaking of blood vessels and can occur with one vessel or a number of vessels that eventually look like a spider web branching out from the "feeder". There are many natural remedies depending upon the severity and location of the veins, including creams and lotions.
There are also just as many causes. Unfortunately, there are no real methods of preventing them. Treating the ailment is the only real way of dealing with spider veins as their cause is usually out of your immediate control with the exception of strengthening the vessel wall and valve - which many natural creams do!
The Central Vein
Although spider veins can show up in all sorts of configurations, they generally start from one central "feeder" that controls the volume and pressure of blood moving in various directions - specifically "downstream" from the primary.
The heart is pumping the amount of blood it needs to support the body’s activities and the veins need to be able to manage that flow without rupturing or losing control of where it needs to go.
If the blood starts to go in a direction not intended a valve closes and redirects the blood. Sometimes there is too much blood (and pressure) for the new direction, which floods and backs-up smaller capillaries.
A Bigger Smaller Problem
Spider veins are nothing out of the ordinary when one stops to think about it for a moment. They are created or exist because there is an excess of blood in that particular vascular region. To contain the extra blood flow, veins needs to expand, or dilate, to carry it. This makes perfect sense and is perfectly fine with the body as long as other factors don’t make it an issue.
Bigger Made Smaller
Making this dilated vessel smaller is the ultimate goal of treatment - whether its laser, injections or natural solutions. There are several methods available for treatment with all being proper for individual cases.
Ultimately, however, making the dilated vessel return to its original size is the goal. Most of the time this can be accomplished and the web-like protrusion diminished. |
